The more groundbreaking the innovation is, the more knowledge we need about it. With new genetic innovations forming, before applying it to people we need to make sure it is safe. With only testing and having brief knowledge on it, researchers don’t have the amount of knowledge they should have in order to make genetic innovations safe. The public also needs to have a wide understanding of genetic innovations before agreeing or disagreeing. In the Dalai Lama he claims, “The higher level of knowledge and power, the greater must be our sense of moral responsibility,”(63). What the Dalai Lama means when he brings up the idea of moral responsibility is we need to be responsible when these higher powers come out with new knowledge and not jump straight on board with what they’re proposing. We as a whole have turned directly to the hierarchy of powers for answers and solutions because we believe that it is our only option. It is important that we obtain background information of what these solutions are before we commit to them. When new knowledge is formed, before the public agrees or disagrees they need to make sure where the information is coming from. They need to check their sources in order to make sure that it is ethical. If genetic editing becomes more mainstream, it could be used to create an unfair society of enhanced humans.
