Throughout the whole semester, one of my papers that I feel that I really revised from my rough draft to my final would be my Dalai Lama essay. Personally for me this essay was very hard to write because I had many ideas that I wanted to talk about but had to filter and combine, and take out ideas that didn’t connect back to my thesis. My prewriting strategy was just going through and taking paragraphs from homework and just putting them into a google doc. After just placing them I would read through the prompt and make sure I had the missing pieces. In my rough draft I didn’t focus on the grammar, or word count which I was normally over I just made sure I had all the content pieces.
Once I had my rough draft completed I just left it be until we would peer review. After peer review I would go through and make the corrections that were needed, and then I would start going through and combining thoughts and cutting out word to be in the word count. Then I would meet with Mackenzie and we would read the paper together, and then I really harshly went through and made corrections and expanded on ideas. Once I corrected all the big issues in my essay, I would then go through and reread and add small details, focus on word count, and then grammar.
From my rough draft to my final I also improved on my transitions. I found transitions to be hard especially in this essay. I also lowered my word count. I also worked on comma splices which was a issue in my first paper. I also made sure to make sure I had included all the quotes needed, and had all the pieces of the paragraphs that also needed to be included. Getting feedback from others was very helpful, I feel that getting feedback help me explain ideas and creative new ideas.
