When considering gene editing people need to look at the whole person, just not the ethical side. People often think that a person living with a disease or a disability there life is over and there is no point to living. The Dalai Lama states, “…holistic and integrated outlook at the level of human society that recognizes the fundamentally interconnected nature of all living beings and their environment”(Lama,69). Dalai Lama is stating that society needs to see people as a whole and not only the disease or disability that people define them as. However, does the evidence I’ve cited prove conclusively that a persons life can be more then the disease or disability they struggle with? People who struggle with a disease or a disability and lack that sources they need and support system to have a sustainable life will no longer have a sustainable life. When people lack these services there life will become overruled by the disease or disability, and no longer be a life worth living. When parents don’t want or have the time to take care of their disabled or diseased child, the ethical side would to do gene editing as an embryo so the child could have a greater quality of life. On one had I agree with people who believe that only the ethical side of gene editing needs to be seen. But on the other hand, I still insist that people need to look at the whole person and not just the ethical side when it comes to gene editing.
